Welcome to DAT Ministries!
This is the homepage for David and Theresa (DAT) Ministries. In case you don't know, DAT Ministries was launched on May 24, 1999 and continued in active ministry for almost 10 years. On September 29, 2008 after serving over 13,500 site visitors, we began a year-long effort to remodel the website. This also coincided with a formal retirement from ministry effective October 1, 2008. The website will now document our retirement years and cover Pastor Dave's ongoing fight against a rare degenerative neuromuscular disorder known as MELAS.
DAT Ministries was first envisioned in
1998 when David received the Calling on his life to be a minister. At that point
in David's life, he had been an electrical engineer for 20 years and a Christian
for 16 years. For the next 10 years, David remained in part-time ministry with
licensure from the World
Ministry Fellowship even
after being diagnosed with a terminal illness in 2005. Now with 2009 at hand, David is making another life-change...
Effective October 1, 2008, David made the decision to retire from active ministry and rescinded his membership with the World Ministry Fellowship. At the same time, he scaled back on some volunteer activities he was doing both in the church and secular communities. The reasoning behind this "Second Retirement" was again due to health reasons. No longer being able to maintain the pace of part-time ministry and various volunteer activities, David felt the need to tidy up various loose ends and focus the remainder of his life on some long forgotten hobbies; two of which are Amateur (Ham) Radio and Radio Controlled Cars (RCC).
By now you might be wondering if this means the end of DAT Ministries? Of course not! DAT Ministries is the online website where David has been chronologically discussing his battle with a non-curable degenerative neuromuscular condition known as MELAS and how faith has enable him to maintain a positive attitude on everything he does. That part of the website, like David, will never die.
So don't worry one iota about not having a website to visit. David plans to continue DAT Ministries onward into informal ministry by showing how David's secular life and hobbies allows for ongoing ministry. For him, it is hard to differentiate secular and ministerial life. After all, regardless of our occupation or retired status, we are all still full-time ambassadors for Christ. For those that I have pastored these past 10 years, I'll always be your pastor. But more importantly, I'll always be your friend.
Blessings,
Dave
